I had a similar problem to fix my windows 10 search so this is what i did:
1. Open the Start menu.
2. Type cmd or command prompt.
3. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
4. Type this command and press Enter: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
5. once DISM has finished (it can take long in particular around 60 percent) on the same prompt run: sfc /scannow

these two operations will make sure that all the windows system files are good and not corrupted. If sfc fails to repair you need to check that your systems is updated and there are no hanging updates but in principle the DISM and sfc commands should take care of everything

After fsc has finished and you are sure that your windows install is fine restart your pc and try to use the windows troubleshooter and repair search

1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
2. Click on Additional troubleshooters.
3. Locate and select Search and Indexing, then click Run the troubleshooter and follow on screen instructions

If the search troubleshooter fails then it is most likely due to a corrupt file index (it happens if you have many many files accumulated over the years) so you need to rebuild a working index:

1. Open the Start Menu, type Control Panel, and press Enter.
2. then click on Indexing Options.
3. Click the Advanced button (you may need administrator permission).
4. In the Index Settings tab, find the Troubleshooting section and click Rebuild.
5. Click OK to confirm.

Windows will now attempt to delete and recreate your search index. This process runs in the background and can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours depending on the size of your drive and the number of files. Better to leave the PC doing this job with everything closed. Just make sure that windows don't enter in standby mode so check that process is running every once in a while.

If the Control Panel method hangs or does not open, you can force the search service to reset using the Command Prompt:
1. Right-click the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
2. Stop the search service by typing: net stop wsearch and pressing Enter.
3. Restart the service by typing: net start wsearch and pressing Enter.

Windows will attempt to reload the indexer, allowing you to try the control panel index rebuild again.

It took a couple of hours as I had 650 gb sdd drive to fix but it worked fine at the end
